Pyrenees Territorial Support Center (CSTP)
The Pyrenees Territorial Support Center (CSTP) is the instrument of the ICGC established in the Pyrenean territory to, from the proximity to this geologically active area, acquire data, manage information and provide technical and scientific support in the fields of geology and soil sciences, contribute to generating and disseminating knowledge about the soil and subsoil, about the values and natural resources of geological and edaphological origin of the Pyrenean area and about the risks and impacts of the geological processes that develop there.

Centre for Interpretation of Pyrenean Soils (CISP)
With the aim of becoming a reference centre for the collection of information and dissemination of mountain soils, the CSTP of the ICGC has created the CISP.
The CISP is a section of the CSTP that has the following objectives:
- Acquire information on the soils of the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees.
- Disseminate and disseminate the importance of soils in their agricultural and environmental aspects.
- Offer a collection of representative soil monoliths from the Pre-Pyrenees and Catalan Pyrenees, both for study and dissemination.
- Become a reference centre for mountain soils.
The most relevant projects that are currently being worked on are:
- Experimental network for measuring physical soil parameters. The purpose of the project is to determine the climatic regime of the soils, collect agronomic data to support agriculture and carry out environmental studies on climate change and hydrological studies.
- Monoliths of the soils of the Pyrenees. Monoliths are a very valuable material for the study of soils and for the dissemination of the constitution and functions of the edaphic environment. At a scientific and educational level, the aim is to study the horizons of a soil, show its morphological characteristics, understand the processes and factors of soil formation, facilitate the analysis of the variation between one type of soil and another and deepen knowledge of the soil. A permanent exhibition has been set up that shows the collection of available soil monoliths.

Soil monoliths of the Pyrenees
Monoliths are soil profiles that have preserved their structure and natural condition. These specimens are used to show the external characteristics of soil types and are preserved for display for educational and professional purposes, and for laboratory experiments.
The soil section is extracted from the ground without disturbing its conditions and, in the laboratory, a treatment is applied to be able to consolidate and manipulate it. A standard monolith is preserved and exhibited in a wooden frame of approximately 100x30x20 cm.
The exhibition of soil monoliths allows the observation and study of numerous soil sections from different landscapes, their uses, compositions, properties and characteristics, concentrated in a single place sheltered from inclement weather, together with all the documentation and associated samples.
Open-air geological museum
The Open-air geological museum Pirineus Geological Open Museum is a project located in the streets of Tremp with large-format geological objects that explain, in an educational way, the materials that make up the Pyrenees mountain range and their geological ages.
This Museum consists of two outstanding spaces:
- The Passeig de Pompeu Fabra, the pavement of the central passeig was intervened in to transform it into an avenue of Geological Times. Using natural materials from the Pyrenees and tiles that reproduce the color code of the different eras, the International Table of Geological Times is represented. The installation is completed with informative elements about the geological moments that have given rise to some species and mass extinctions. This intervention makes the public and museum uses of the passeig compatible.
- The Barranc del Joncar park, where the geological garden is made up of more than a dozen large monoliths, that is, columns of the various types of rock representative of the Pyrenees. Monoliths will also be placed in front of the CSTP building.
A unique element, a lighthouse type, was installed between the Passeig de Pompeu Fabra and the Barranc del Joncar park, which connects both sectors.
In June 2016, the collaboration agreement was signed between the Tremp City Council and the ICGC for the materialization of this project. More information
Documentation center
The CSTP documentation centre specialises in geology, edaphology and cartography of the Pyrenees. The Cartoteca de Catalunya (ICGC) has been tasked with analysing and proposing the organisation, inventory and catalogue of the works of this earth science centre.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. and 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. Make an appointment by calling 973 650 830 or by sending an email to infotremp@icgc.cat.
Training and information activities
The CSTP contributes to disseminating geological and edaphological knowledge of the Pyrenean area in conferences aimed at professionals and also with various educational activities, both within the school environment and in relation to university and research centers.
The CSTP is also the scientific headquarters of the Origens als Pirineus Catalans Geopark.
Geotraversa
A Geotraversa consists of establishing a series of georoutes that cross the entire Pyrenean mountain range, taking advantage of existing trails, such as the GR and others. These georoutes are equipped with a series of signposted points where the most important and spectacular features of the geological constitution and soils of the Pyrenees, their formation, their history and, where appropriate, anecdotal scientific facts are observed and explained.
The CSTP works on proposals for disseminating the geological heritage of the Pyrenees through the preparation of geotraversas.
Learning Environment (EdA) of Tremp
Based on the agreement signed in 2014 between the ICGC, the Department of Education, the Pallars Jussà Regional Council and the Tremp City Council, the CSTP supports the training of teachers of the Tremp Learning Environment, provides promotional material for students and provides content for various activities in the area of Earth sciences.

The CSTP offers its spaces and its experience to carry out training and work activities.
In addition, in the CSTP building, the air conditioning and hot water are of geothermal origin, an installation that may be of interest to other organizations interested in this system of obtaining renewable and sustainable energy.
Visiting hours: Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00. Arrange visits by calling 973 650 830 or writing an email to infotremp@icgc.cat.
The Tremp Basin
The Tremp Basin constitutes an oil system, a circumstance that gives it an international appeal and has made its outcrops ideal for companies in the hydrocarbon sector for the training of their technical personnel.
