Barcelona City Council is pleased to invite you to the presentation of the book Horitzons i límits per a Barcelona. La traça cartogràfica (Horizons and Limits for Barcelona. The Cartographic Trace), which compiles the papers presented at the 5^th Barcelona Cartography History Conference, held in November 2022 at the Arxiu Històric de la Ciutat. This work is the result of a collaboration between the Arxiu and the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC).

Antonio Magariños, Director of the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), Sílvia Domènech, Director of the Historical Archive of the City, and the coordinators of the conferences, Ramon Grau and Carme Montaner will participate in this event.

The combined support of the Arxiu Històric de la Ciutat de Barcelona and the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC) for the Barcelona Conference on the History of Cartography project has lasted for almost fifteen years and has given rise to five colloquia and the publication of the corresponding studies, starting with the conference in May 2010, continuing with those in 2012, 2015 and 2018, and ending with those in November 2022, which is the origin of this book. The eight presentations are in addition to the thirty-six from previous instalments. In this edition, we have wanted to pay special attention to the relationship between the cartographer and his public, helping them to perceive with their strokes the whole of urban reality through landscape images with a popular vocation, although always based on planimetry, or by transferring awareness of the limits of the city, not always visible and not always incontrovertible, such as those established by political or military power in accordance with their respective interests.
