Donation of the Jordi Corominas photographic collection to the Map Library of Catalonia for public consultation

Jordi Corominas is professor emeritus of Geological Engineering at the School of Civil Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). Throughout his professional and academic career he has compiled a large collection of photographs of landslides that have occurred in Catalonia, which has helped his research studies, cartographic work and teaching and educational activities. He has been one of the pioneers in the study of landslides in Catalonia, which were faced with a significant lack of information of this nature, a fact that he has tried to compensate with systematic work of graphic documentation.

The collection that is now on loan to the Map Library of Catalonia is made up of more than 7,000 slides located in space and time, which illustrate the incidence of landslides in the Catalan and Andorran territory. It also documents other geological hazards, such as river and torrential flooding and land subsidence.

Its public consultation will provide basic information for new studies and work on the subject, as a record of activity or indications of ground instability to be taken into consideration in the future.
